First off, if you found this review helpful in your decision-making, please click on the helpful button so this review may help others in their decision-making process. This is the first personal tablet I have bought (for the wife), and I must say, for both of us, that WE LOVE IT!!! I wont go into the Qualcomm Processor or all the finicky nerd-type details, but what I will say is it is definitely worth the money. A 8" tablet from a generic brand at Wal-Mart costs $80, so why not spend the extra $20 for 2" more and from a name brand that is a little more reliable. The memory included is 16GB, which is more than enough for the 10 or so apps that are on now ( Netflix, Spectrum, Youtube, and a couple of game apps) and if needed, has a slot for a normal sized SD Card. The pics are ok, but thats not what I got it for. As other reviews stated, it does not feel cheaply made, and is a little on the heavier side, with a glass screen. It charges by Micro-USB, and utilizes a "rapid-charge" function when the tablet is on and plugged-in, taking about 2 1/2- 3 hours for a full charge from a dead battery, and about 4 hours with the tablet off from a dead battery. On that full charge, it can last a consistent 6 hours of youtube (sometimes more), as long as it does not use too much power-consuming apps (games, mostly).I have read some reviews stating the tablet is slow, however, I am connected to the normal 2.4 ghz wifi (no 5g connection for the tablet), with BitDefender 2017 running on startup and had a paused youtube video in the background, and can confidently say chrome opened to my google homepage in 3 seconds, and I had this baby for 6 months now. My keyboard for my youtube search bar comes on-screen in a second, literally. Maybe its your internet thats slow? Or maybe you were looking at something you werent supposed to and got a virus/malware/ something-ware that slowed down the tablet? Maybe you should get BitDefender 2017 as well? Or just maybe this tablet just isnt up to the tasks you specifically require. If you are looking for a tablet that will keep you busy inbetween daily chores, and nothing too specific but can handle a very good amount of the "normal" (youtube, web searches, emails, selfies, SOME games, etc.) day-in, day-out uses, like what we use it for, than this is very much worth it.
If I remember correctly, this model of Lenovo tablet was cheapened-down for a Black Friday sale in 2016. This will be going back. Half the time it starts up in "safe mode" although I've installed no apps other than Google updates to cause it. Start-up is annoyingly slow and the sound that plays with the Lenovo logo can't be turned down. Sound quality is bad. The screen is responsive to touch, but it's not as sharp as my old LePan II that's at least 4 years old.The only good thing I can say about this tablet is battery life is excellent.I ended up returning this and getting an Asus 8" Zenpad instead ASUS ZenPad 8 Dark Gray 8-inch Android Tablet [Z380M] 2MP Front / 5MP Rear PixelMaster Camera, WXGA TouchScreen, 16GB Onboard Storage, Quad-Core 1.3GHz Processor, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi - I waffled between the Asus and the Samsung Galaxy but would have had to settle for a refurbished Galaxy if I wanted to stay in this price range: Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0" 16GB (Wi-Fi), Smoky Titanium (Certified Refurbished).
Let be honest here, that price is really sexy. You don't want an "RCA" or some unknown Chinese brand right? So you find this sweet little Lenovo. If you buy this tablet, you need to keep one thing in mind; It takes a patient person to truly appreciate this tablet. It's not snappy, but adequate. The screen isn't ultra HD, but still beautiful. Is it a laptop replacement? Hell no. It's just a smartphone with a massive screen (minus the calling). The most productivity you'll get out of this is word processor, and maybe a bit more. It handles light games smoothly, but the more demanding games are unbearable. It's the perfect budget entertainment machine. Why spend 600$ on a tablet that will be used similarly to this one? Because you're a pampered princess, that's why. Get this tablet, be a better person. That is all I have to say.Update 7/26/17The tablet crashes. A lot. A lot. Truly this tablet struggles under load, and even for general purpose use, it seems to fall under load quite a bit. I've come to the conclusion that this tablet is best used for consuming video entertainment. Anything else from gaming to web browsing will be difficult under stressful circumstances. I'm a pampered princess, I'm selling it on offer up and getting a better one. If you want a budget tablet, just go for an Amazon fire. Besides that, spend at least $150 for a decent tablet.
There's always a trade off. My application for the Lenovo tablet is downloading the real jazz fake books for dropping in on open jam sessions. These books are big in the print edition and there are several editions totaling several hundred pages of sheet music. The music when purchased on line from the publisher is indexed so I can click the song the leader calls out and it goes right to that page. I wanted a large screen so I could read the sheet music and decided a 10 tablet would be the best option for my old eyes. The Qualcomm processor handles the job just fine. I also use it to manage a Facebook group and buy and sell on Amazon, Facebook Etsy etc. The battery life seems good. I also listen to Pandora and YouTube a lot and the speakers are actually decent. Dolby stereo? Well being just inches apart you really don't get that orchestra hall effect...ha! Ha! The trade off on the price point is a processor that may be too slow for some users like gamers. I looked at other 10 inch class tablets at a similar price point... Several unknown brands and RCA. Even the kids at Walmart said don't even think of the RCA. I never read too many good reviews about all the others either. As most folks know, Lenovo is IBM. A friend tossed his Lenovo laptop out a second floor window, fetched it and it fired right up... No damage, so I felt Lenovo would be worth a try. The 5mp camera does a good job but I didn't buy it for the camera although I do post photos of antiques I'm selling so it does an adequate job. In a nutshell... Lower price means a slower processor and that's the big trade off. I didn't want to spend a fortune and the smaller screens on the Kindle and others just wouldn't work for me. I personally really like it. I've included a photo I recently took so you can be the judge of it's photography capabilities. I also included a screenshot of one of the pages of music just to give you an idea of what I'm using it for. I just got the Bobjgear silicone cover for it. It has a feature that redirects the speaker sounds to the front which is a fantastic idea. The cover is a little bulky but is specify designed for this tablet... Love the cover but no kickstand.
The processor is slow. Remember that. Its a $100 tablet that has a great display and its well constructed. Remember that.Does it run slower than an iPad, Galaxy, or other $500+ tablet yes. If you are used to opening an app in 1 or 2 seconds, then it will be irritating to wait 4-5 seconds to open an app. All apps that I have installed or used function correctly with no lag or stuttering, no file problems. I use Polaris Office, Google Docs, and MS stuff with no problem. Video from the SD card is smooth and opens quickly. Streaming video is smooth and in HD.Its just strange to have to wait 4-5 seconds to open an app.Pros:great displaygreat constructionlimited bloatwareCons:slow processorI cannot figure out how to move existing icons onto the homepage/desktop like on other Android devicesProcessor speed aside, the tablet has great contrast for viewing small print and wiring diagrams. The HD video is better than my LED television. The wifi connection is strong and reliable. When you first set it up, it will install 3 large updates as other people have mentioned. THE THIRD UPDATE WILL APPEAR TO FREEZE AND TO LOCK UP THE TABLET. DO NOTHING> the tablet has a slow processor and will finish installing the third update shortly. Just wait it out. I think that it took 20 minutes to install. (all of the updates downloaded within 1-2 minutes with the 10 Mbps connection speed on our router)The first time that I set up the tablet, I panicked and interrupted the third update because I thought that it was stuck on the Lenovo screen as others have complained. DO NOTHING at that point. JUST WAIT.IF you interrupt the update then reset the tablet to factory default: hold the Volume Up and the Power button simultaneously until a menu appears. Select "wipe data/factory reset" and then just start again. The Volume Up button is the one on the right, closest to the Power button.Purchase a fast micro SD card for the tablet such as this:https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-microSDXC-Standard-Packaging-SDSQUNC-064G-GN6MA/dp/B010Q588D4/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1494987686&sr=1-2&keywords=64+gb+micro+sd+cardWhen you first put it into the tablet, it might not be recognized. Follow the directions to format the card. The first time that you plug the tablet into a PC to transfer files to the SD card, if your PC does not recognize the SD card and it only shows the tablet's internal memory, then reformat the card and restart the tablet. Then plug the tablet back into the PC. I figured this out the hard way, but I don't think that it has anything to do with the tablet itself.***********Just to be clear, the tablet really is a great purchase, don't be turned off by the negative reviews complaining about the system crashing during updates.
