A more than capable used Chromebook for $65. Quickly came in great condition. Everyone complaining about what a Chromebook can and can't do obviously did not do their homework. It's not meant to be a replacement for a powerful laptop but if you a simple, lightweight machine to just poot around on the web and use Google products, like Sheets and Docs, than you found a winner. I have a heavy, 17" laptop that does all my dirty work, but when I want to just chill on the sofa or in bed to do a little light work, this is perfect. After doing a little research I found that the Dell Chromebook 11 3120 is due to reach its Auto Update "End of Life" on June 2020. But that's no problem b/c there are a few options you can choose from when that happens...keep using it or install Linux or Cloudready. So if you want a decent little laptop for only a little bit of money, go ahead and grab one of these! Also, seller Electsales sent mine with a brand new charger. Oh, only complaint...the keys are very stiff and sturdy...I assume that's intentional as it was probably a mass produced model for students who beat the hell out of these. They're in great shape but I could imagine you'd experience some finger fatigue if you use this to type a lot. ALSO, i don't know why "touch screen" is an option in the review b/c it's NOT a touch screen and says so in the description but I rated it a 5 just so the overall rating wouldn't take a bad hit for no reason.
Overall good solid utility laptop for education; as a secondary Google Apps / G Suite device; or as a secure loner laptop for guests. Very light and portable. Great battery life. Has held up well over time. Solid build quality and somewhat ruggedized compared to most other Chromebooks that came out at the same time. All for a very reasonable low price. The chiclet keyboard is decent for this class of device. The display screen is functional but the viewing angles are limited and the display does not get as bright as I would like. Speed / performance is adequate for basic web browsing, email, productivity with Google Apps / G Suite apps, YouTube and watching Google Play movies. Instead of worrying about a guest (or visitor), who might be less than careful, dropping, breaking or infecting your much more expensive everyday primary laptop with malware etc., you can lone them this Dell Chromebook without worry or security issues.A significant drawback has more to do with the limitations of the Google Chrome OS (operating system) UI / UX (user interface / user experience) design of the graphical user interface software itself -- with regard to some interface elements on screen such as some of the icons, menu font size and other elements like the web browser URL address bar / search bar text size -- where some font sizes (text sizes) are way too small to comfortably read at a normal viewing distance. This is a huge issue if you intend to spend much time with this device, but is a Google software design issue, not an issue with the Dell hardware itself (as these are not an issue if you install something like Ubuntu Linux on this laptop). Google does allow adjustment of font sizes (text sizes) for some screen elements in certain contexts but not all. So some screen elements are painfully small and difficult to read on this 11 inch display size. Note: Adjusting the screen to a lower resolution is NOT an adequate solution to fix this issue, as you end up with a blurry screen when you switch from the native resolution -- and at a lower resolution you may not be able to access the entire interface. Likewise, the accessibility settings options do NOT adequately solve this issue either. This software interface issue could be fixed by Google in its design of Chrome OS but do not hold your breath waiting for Google to do so. Not likely to happen anytime soon. Ironically, as far as this issue goes you can get a much better experience with Google Chrome on a Windows or Mac laptop where their operating systems give you much more flexibility with user interface and accessibility options and screen resolution (especially on the Mac). So with these limitations of the Google Chrome OS interface you would get a better user experience with a larger 13 inch Chromebook display. But the 11 inch display Chromebook is very light and extremely portable as a utility laptop -- and you can bounce back and forth with some font size (text size) settings and zoom options to somewhat offset this limitation depending on the context of what webpage or app you are working with at the moment.
Its just small enough that its not a pain to walk around school with in my backpack. The screen is big enough to read and type on. The battery life is really good MUCH better than my full size laptop. It says I have almost 10 hours at full charge. It turns on VERY quickly and it basically always will be quick its not like a normal windows or mac. You can't really load a bunch of programs on it so it will always be pretty fast. This computer is strictly business..for school this works great. Do not buy this thinking you can play games and load a bunch of applications on it that is not what this is.However, do not buy this thing if you think you can load android apps on it. You can't. This literally is a Chromebook. It basically ONLY has google crome on it.Side note... I haven't been able to get skype video chat to work on here. There isn't a "chrome app" that supports its as of now. So thats one bad thing about it.
First off I LOVE the laptop but not loving the Chromebook aspect. It is built well and feels great in your hands. I am not a technical person so can't give specs and such but I can give an honest review. It is military grade so can take drops and spills on the keyboard although I have not tried to test it out myself. It does not look or feel cheap and screen and speakers are pretty good for the price. I can take it outside and see and hear everything just fine. This is great for a person that has a desktop computer or a bulky laptop. This machine is NOT made for much else other than surfing the web, social media, shopping, and schoolwork. If you do not have CONSTANT internet access then this is NOT a computer for you. EVERYTHING is done online. For example. You can not install things like Microsoft word but you can use Word Online. Now, this is going to apply to chromebooks in general, not just this awesome DELL computer. Chromebook, in my opinion has a long way to go before it will be worthy of me purchasing again in the future. I can get over not having software downloaded and ready to use on my desktop. The thing I have a problem with is it is not compatible with so many apps. Such as Skype and HULU. These are services that so many people use daily yet it is not available on Chromebook at this time. I would expect a nice computer to be able to everything my Kindle Fire does and more. If not, I was better off just buying a keyboard for my Kindle Fire because I can do sooooo much more with it than I can with this Chromebook. The ONLY reason I rated this product so highly is because it is a really good computer and as long as you are ok with how useless the software is then I would highly recommend this product. Great for a first time computer for a young teen.
This product is amazing, in theory.Fresh out of the box it could not connect to any wifi networks. After hours of googling and troubleshooting I eventually was able to get my chromebook to connect to my Office WiFi. It is still painfully slow compared to the internet connection my laptop, phone, and desktop can pull. Now my chromebook will work in my office but it will not connect to any other network. I have tried two separate home networks and a public networks but the chromebook can't connect to any of them. Well, it will connect for a second but immediately drop the connection. All three of the other networks are working fine and have no connectivity issues with any other devices.I have tried every tip on the web in order to solve this problem but nothing worked. I even tried installing Ubuntu and trying to connect to the internet with a clean OS I knew worked flawlessly. It seems to me that this is a hardware issue and it is a pretty well-known issue! The fact that Dell would continue to sell this product with full knowledge that their device is defective is troubling. The only way I can use this product is if I use an ethernet to USB converter or if I use a USB WiFi receiver and run Ubuntu, which completely defeats the purpose. Considering this device was built to be used in the cloud, it is ridiculous that it's main flaw is internet connectivity. Without internet this device is useless (Chrome OS won't play videos or let you install/transfer certain files via bluetooth or USB).Since it was only $200 I guess it isn't that big of a deal. After installing ubuntu I now have a laptop without a wifi receiver that weighs 2 pounds so i guess that is ok.On the bright side, when I am in my office on the one WiFi network that works with this chromebook it is a great experience. Battery life is incredible, screen is very good for the price, keyboard is comfortable, it looks better than the picture, and the device doesn't feel cheap at all.If this device actually worked it would be 5 stars for sure.
